Pakistani forces killed a Baloch farmer at Dalbandin checkpoint, BYC demands probe

Balochistan [Pakistan], October 10: A 28-year-old farmer was reportedly shot dead and another man wounded after Pakistani military personnel opened fire at a checkpoint in Dalbandin, Balochistan, according to reports by The Balochistan Post.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) identified the deceased as Yasin Baloch, son of the late Muhammad Ghaus, a resident of Zahoor Colony in Dalbandin. His companion, Sami, sustained injuries during the shooting. According to the BYC, Yasin was the sole surviving male earner for his family—having lost both parents—and his death leaves his two sisters without their primary financial and familial support.

Strongly condemning the incident, the BYC described it as part of a wider, systemic pattern of violence against civilians in Balochistan, alleging that local residents remain vulnerable to lethal force and harassment while traveling through military-controlled areas. The committee stated that checkpoints, ostensibly established for security, have increasingly become sites of intimidation and violence, creating a pervasive atmosphere of fear across the region.

This incident follows another deadly episode in the Panjgur district on October 3, where two children were killed and three others injured in Fateh Ali Bazaar, Gowargo. While local sources initially reported that a suspicious object hanging from a tree had exploded while children played nearby, it was later alleged that the device contained explosives attached to a Pakistani military quadcopter. The BYC characterized the Panjgur deaths as an instance of “collective punishment and state terrorism,” highlighting ongoing concerns over civilian safety throughout the province.
