Discrepancy in Claims by Sarfraz Bugti and ISPR Regarding the Number of Casualties in Gwadar Operation
A discrepancy has emerged between the statements of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and the Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) regarding the casualties of Baloch independence activists during the operation that took place in Gwadar in recent days.
Sarfraz Bugti claimed the killing of 7 Baloch independence activists, while ISPR reported the killing of 10 Baloch independence activists.
The two official statements differ by three individuals in the number of casualties, highlighting a contradiction in official claims about the deaths during the Gwadar operation. Independent verification of these figures is still needed.
The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has announced the launch of ‘Operation Almas’, claiming a coordinated offensive against Pakistani security installations in Gwadar district, Balochistan. The group says its fighters entered the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) camp at Gwadar Zero Point and launched attacks at multiple locations, including police and security posts.
The BLF has also claimed casualties among Pakistani security personnel and asserted that its operation continued across several fronts. However, these claims remain disputed. Pakistani accounts have rejected claims of a successful takeover of military or intelligence facilities, reporting that the targeted site was a vacated construction camp and that security forces responded to the attack. Independent confirmation of the competing accounts remains limited.
