A few days ago, the brother of Mina Majid, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Balochistan for Sports and Youth Affairs, was forcibly abducted by armed men. In response, Mina Majid flexed her influence by launching a full-scale military operation in Mand and surrounding areas.
According to our information, house-to-house searches are underway, and those who had disputes with her brother, or who know him, or on whom even the slightest suspicion falls, are all being forcibly picked up by the military in the dead of night without any legal proceedings. This oppression and tyranny has always been inflicted upon the Baloch, and this time too, it is being carried out in the “finest” manner.
She is the same woman who was once a primary school teacher, who didn’t even know the ABCs of politics, but by cozying up to the military, she has risen from there to here. Now the question is, who is the real oppressor? The one misusing authority for personal revenge, or the one hiding behind the uniform to abduct the innocent at her command? Both are equally culpable. State power is not meant for settling a minister’s family feuds. The Baloch nation is already bearing the wounds of enforced disappearances, and now razing more homes for the sake of an influential family is blatant injustice.
Our demand is that all those picked up be immediately produced in court, that the operation undergo independent judicial investigation, and that the case of the brother’s abduction be pursued in accordance with the law. Oppression, no matter in whose name it is done, we will call it oppression and continue to raise our voice against it.
