Families of those forcibly disappeared held a protest rally in Kech, the central town of Turbat, on the first day of Eid. The demonstration was attended by a large number of people and participants demanded the recovery of their missing loved ones.
The families, along with supporters, also staged a sit-in at Shaheed Fida Chowk to draw attention to their plight.
This ongoing protest has received significant support from the community and various human rights organizations.
Prominent advocacy group Baloch Yakjehti Samiti has been vocal about the issue on social media.
Citing a UN report, the committee stressed the widespread impact of enforced disappearances. “Enforced disappearances are often used as a strategy to instill terror in society. The feeling of insecurity generated by this practice is not limited to the close relatives of the disappeared, but also affects their communities and society as a whole. It constitutes a crime against humanity,” the committee said in a post on X.
The committee also criticised the Government of Pakistan and accused it of inhumane treatment of Baloch people through systematic disappearances and alleged genocide.
“However, the Government of Pakistan constantly reminds us that the Baloch do not deserve to be human by committing this crime and our genocide. The international community and human rights advocates, while taking pride in their humanity, seem to agree with the government by maintaining their silence on the crimes against the Baloch people,” the statement further said.
The protests on Eid highlighted the emotional impact on the families of the missing.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee said, “Every Eid, Baloch mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, wives and children, friends and relatives, haunted by the pain of their missing loved ones, look at the world and ask: When did they lose their humanity to this atrocity?”
he/she urged the global community to break its silence and advocate for the release of those held captive.
BYC said, “We are humans, release our loved ones from the dark dungeons and give us back our humanity.”
The rally in Turbat underlines the growing demand for justice and accountability in the wake of ongoing enforced disappearances in the region.
The family and supporters are demanding international intervention and a solution to their long-term suffering.
